BVCNet Opens a Window on the Brazos Valley
The Brazos Valley Community Network, BVCNet, serves as a window on Bryan-College Station and the surrounding area. The secure, reliable, high-speed computer network links cities, counties, healthcare providers, schools and higher education institutions providing a portal to search governmental information, educational opportunities, and other local services.
The project also established web access sites throughout Bryan and College Station to extend technology to primarily underserved populations.
Another component of BVCNet connects local governments for the purpose of sharing internal information to create more effective use of resources.
Through a common database, BVCNet links 11 public and private entities: Blinn College, Brazos County, the Brazos Valley Council of Governments, Bryan I.S.D., the City of Bryan, the City of College Station, College Station I.S.D., the Research Valley Partnership, St. Joseph Regional Health Center, Texas A&M University and the Texas A&M University System Health Science Center.
The project was funded through a grant from the Texas Telecommunications Infrastructure Fund, which collected money from phone bills to advance technology throughout the state.
